When I came up with the idea for Ride, I’d been listening to a lot of post-punk and gothic rock. Nine While Nine by The Sisters of Mercy, The Cure… songs built around driving basslines and a steady pulse.

When I’m captivated by a song, I can listen to it on repeat for days. Those basslines became almost like sonic mantras.

I wanted to write the kind of song I was looking for myself – driving and dynamic, but relaxed enough to disappear into.

Ride became a song about that moment just before change.
When fear finally gives way to movement.

Let it ride.
 Let it burn.

When I first shared the idea for Ride on YouTube, someone asked whether bass tabs would be available.

That felt like an honor. I loved knowing the song had already resonated with someone before it was even finished.

It took me a while to finish the song, but now it’s finally here – along with the bass transcription.

The cover artwork comes from an older photographic series of mine called Magic Circle.

When I looked back through the series, this image immediately felt like Ride. The fading silhouette became the visual embodiment of the ghost that's being set alive.

This transcription was created by me from the original recording and is available as a free download for anyone who'd enjoy playing it, too.
I hope you enjoy it. 🖤
