When I came up with the idea for Ride, I'd been listening to a lot of post-punk and gothic rock. Songs like Nine While Nine by The Sisters of Mercy, or almost anything by The Cure and other post-punk bands, all had one thing in common: driving basslines and a steady pulse.

When I'm captivated by a song, I can listen to it on repeat for days. Those basslines became almost like sonic mantras, and after a while I found myself hypnotized by them.

I love music that keeps me moving. I walk fast, I think fast, and I naturally gravitate toward songs that match that rhythm.

It didn't take long before I wanted to write the kind of song I was looking for myself: something driving, dynamic, yet relaxed enough to become a mantra in the background.

Ride combines a driving post-punk bassline, hypnotic electronic rhythms and soft vocals into a slow-burning anthem about letting go. It captures that moment just before change; when fear finally gives way to movement and all that's left is to keep going. The repeating chorus works like a mantra, building layer by layer until it dissolves into a trance-like release.

The cover artwork comes from an older photographic series of mine called Magic Circle.

When I looked back through the series, this image immediately felt like Ride. The fading silhouette became the visual embodiment of the ghost that's being set alive.
